Help find cures and medicines for childhood diseases by joining our World Community Grid team.  It doesn't cost anything and the purpose is to allow spare processing time (screen saver mode when you are not using the computer) to perform complex research calculations.  Read more about it on the site. The way it works is that you sign up to download the "Boinc" software from University of California, Berkeley, select the scientific projects you want to "crunch" and then let the software work automatically when you are away from the computer:
