Charity

To mention again... we don't hound people for donations.  It defeats the purpose of having an enjoyable free show.  Don't feel obligated.  Just bring the kids and enjoy.  Each year we select a different organization to support with donations (yours and ours) collected in the donation box near the curb.  The requirements for selection of a charity are always the same:

  •   It must benefit children who have life threatening disabilities.

  •   The organization must be a non-profit entity (501 C 3 or equivalent) in operation for 10 years or more.

  •   A least 80% of funds must go to the actual cause (< 10% for their administration cost)

  •   100% of money is donated to the actual charity and NO money goes to pay for the display or setting it up.

  •   Donations must be fully tax deductable under IRS rules.

Basically, we want to make sure our efforts, our money, and your donations go to a respectable organization.  Our part in this effort is that we become a sponsor of the charity and organize this event with neighbors and other contributors.  Our selection for 2009 is the Cerebral Palsy Center for the Bay Area.  We always work directly with an organization so you know we are an approved sponsor.  Feel free to call them for confirmation. 510-531-3323.

Cash or checks are accepted in the donation box and are fully tax deductable.  Last year we received single cash donations ranging form $1 up to $300, so every dollar helps.  If you write a check, make it payable to the charity, not us.  We won't cash your check and will have to return it.  If you want a receipt for a cash donation, we are happy to provide one.

GET A DVD VIDEO!   (only until January 4, 2010)

New this year, we are creating a DVD Video of the complete show plus several more songs that are not seen in the nightly show.  It includes we had in the last 2 years such as "Learning to Fly" & "Comfortably Numb", "Blue Christmas", "White Christmas", "Toy Land", and more.  A total of 10 songs will be in the set that lasts about 50 minutes. The house video is recorded in HD, but the DVD will be normal DVD quality.  Like most commercial DVDs, it will contain a menu system to select and view your favorite songs without having to sequentially scan through the whole movie.

The DVD is not being sold, but offered to anyone who requests it and donates $25 or more to the charity we are supporting.  The easiest way is to get one is to put your check or cash in an envelop that includes your contact information, then drop the envelop at our curb side box.  Please include an email address so we can confirm receipt and send email status of the DVD to you.  Optionally you can send it by mail to 1931 Knollcrest Ct., San Ramon, CA 94582, but please don't include cash by mail.  If making donation by check, make payment to "Cerebral Palsy Center".  Delivery of the DVD will be made near the end of January as it takes a lot of time to edit and produce a good quality result. The DVD is Copyright and cannot be legally duplicated, but we will be glad to replace one that fails.  As always, no money goes to us.  The DVD is produced out of our pocket.

Thank you for your generosity to help children by supporting them in the many years you have come to see our traditional display.  Additional information is published by visitors to our message board (see link on the left).  Visit if you have time, and make your own comments or questions.

2009 Charity Results       Contributions from all years since the creation of our shows have totaled more than $57,000.
